Tigers & Tornados (fixture 7), Terriers (fixture 8)

29.1.23All 3 county teams playing away – Tornados at Stockport, Terriers at Stoke and Tigers at Murton.

For the Tornados, the Triples were the pick of the day ending undefeated with 9 out of 10 points. The Fours secured a win apiece and also picked up their bonus adding another 6 points. The Pairs likewise each had a win but were unable to claim their bonus due mainly to an unexpected heavy defeat in one game (30-1). In the Singles, Stockport’s Mike Clancy and Peter Roberts were taking no prisoners but nevertheless conceded 2 points giving the Tornados an overall match win by 21-19 (167-206). The team now looks forward to the return match at home in a months time.

For the Terriers, the trip to play Staffordshire, last years champions, on their home turf, was always going to be problematical. And so it proved to be with comprehensive defeats in all games, bar one. This was thanks to the captain’s triple who saved a complete whitewash by picking up the only win of the match. Final score was 38-2 (77-294). They now have the return match to play for their last fixture of the year.

For their penultimate match the Tigers travelled to Murton to try their luck against Durham and looking for their 3rd win of the season. Both the Singles and the Triples shared their points with the opposition although neither were able to pick up the bonus points. The Pairs failed to score but the Fours had a good day picking up 8 of the 10 available points. The final result was therefore a match loss by 16-24 (146-206). In 2 weeks time they will play their final match (at home) against top of the division Stockport B and to end the year with another victory would be sweet.
