| COMPETITIONS – Northern Championships |
|
The NESMBA is a grouping of several of the northern counties (currently 7) originally set up in 1990. At this time the ESMBA recognized four Zones (South West, Central, Eastern and Northern) but the idea failed to be developed by them and soon fell out of favour. Of the four, the Northern Zone survived (now renamed to NESMBA) and is run by its own committee. With no official role to fulfil as far as the ESMBA is concerned, the NESMBA now fulfils two functions. Firstly to organize the local Northern Inter-County League (in which we enter 3 teams) and secondly to organize and run these annual Northern Individual Championships. which have now been running since 1992. Prior to 2001 they were held at Newton Aycliffe from whence they were moved to the Teesdale Leisure Centre in Barnard Castle. In 2023 they found a new home in the York & District IBC where they will remain for the foreseeable future. |

These Northern Championships are for Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours only. There are 4 places in each discipline for each county but more may be offered if some counties do not taking up their full allocation. (There are no Over55, Mixed Fours or Junior competitions.) To qualify, members must first take part in the County Championships which act as heats.
