CHAMPIONSHIPS – Pairs results

Sunday Feb 5: Today saw the resumption of the County Pairs Championship that was abandoned in session 3 last November due to an extended power cut caused by storm Arwen. This 3rd session therefore marked todays starting point. 3 Pairs had pulled out for various reasons (reducing the entry to 21) so the three groups affected were awarded 2 points and 9 shots for their missed games. Group winners and the “next best 10” then went into the KO stages (last 16) with the winners then playing the Q Finals. In these there were wins for…..

Dave Herbert/Dave Edmunds v Rod & Jonathan Dawson (8-7)
James Clark/Danielle Smith v Keith Hughes/David Brown (10-5)
David & Joseph Newsome v John Goddard/Roger Green (8-7)
Danny Langdon/Francis Boatman v Neil Flynn/Steve Duffin (9-7)

In the Semis, James and Danielle overwhelmed Dave and Dave with a 13-0 victory whilst the Newsome’s were squeezed out by Danny and Francis (7-5). In the Final, the latter duo were always on top and finally ran out as this years Pairs Champions by 9-3.

   

This was a 4th Pairs title for Danny and a 3rd for Francis

The Umpire was Richard Good. All games were 9 ends.

PS: It was good to see Ben Render amongst the spectators, maybe reminiscing about his win in 2016 when he partnered Danny in the latter’s first Pairs win. Thinking about putting on the County strip again Ben in 22-23?
