TORNADOS (FIXTURE 8) AND JANE & DAVID HIT THE 100
17/01/26
Humberside Hawks 7 v Tornados 23
So, …….. when my phone pinged around 22.00 on Saturday evening as I was dozing off, to say one of the team has been admitted into hospital… I just had to cross everything in the hope that all was not lost, and we would manage with 19 and go short. You just can’t expect players to step in at such a short notice, so I just left it as was.
The next morning around 07.30, when I received the news that Danielle was home, ok(ish)… and travelling to play, my mood lifted exponentially, my smile broadened and my step just got a whole lot lighter.
So, off down to North Cave, wondering if the Hawks had more ICC players up their sleeves? Well as it turned out, as I arrived their captain was deeply frowning trying to get a full squad to turn up. Humberside had moved the “newish” mats around since last season, and I thought they were really good. Not as slow as one expects M on M.
Before getting down to play, the whole hall stood for a minutes silence to remember a player/Umpire who had recently passed away (Mr. David Money) who had helped out at the Galtres many times in the past.
So how did we get on?
In the Tornados team selection, some consistency in partnerships is obviously gaining traction, though I’m not complacent and there’s still work to do on my part.
I do think the 4s in recent games had not gained the wins and shots they deserved, as they certainly were not playing badly, so let’s hope Saturday’s huge success is a starting point of their revitalisation and upward trajectory……
To the match scores.
Hawks 7 points, 0 Agg 116 shots
NY Tornados 25 points, 8 Agg 213 shots.
Singles 8, Pairs 9, Trips 6, and 4s 10 with +53 shots. Amazing stuff.
While all this was going on, I still found a brief moment at lunch time to make a couple of presentations. The young whippersnappers Jane “BFJ” Rudd and demon David Brown both reached and were presented with their greatly deserved “100” games played for North Yorkshire trophies. A personal note of thanks to them both for all that they have given to the county and the sport.
With only home games remaining as the season draws to a close, it will be an exciting run in to the end. WTS!
