TORNADOS (Fixture 3) TERRIERS (Fixture 4)
Tornadoes Fixture 3
Tornados 22 v West Yorkshire A 20
“Captain nearly does a cart Wheel in Delight, to great amusement of his fellow team players”
What a finish to another absorbing days bowls.
Talk about margins……!
West Yorkshire came to Easingwold only having played Humberside Hawks previously this season so far. With not a lot that could be read into that result, it was of great interest to see what team they would bring along. As the “big guns” waltzed through the door, we knew immediately what sort of day it was going to be. Tornados had sadly lost the service of two regular team players only hours before the off due to illness and family concerns. And that exactly how it was. (big thanks to Paul and Malcolm who stepped in so quickly)
Kevin Siddle a very highly rated player but had not been on the scene for some time turned up. “Has he still got his Heavy game”?
Keith Lackford and Tom Morris both play on the Short Mat Players Tour regularly. Tom is ranked currently 17th in the World and 5th in the Order of Merit..
And so, the day unfolded. Tornados down 6-10 at half way. The afternoon session was a big reversal. A painfully focussed “Rodders” gave a classic “hold your nerve” captains performance against Tom Morris, while he battered away at the fender, he chose playing a relentless drawing game, much to Toms frustration. Picking up two threes in the last three ends to win 18-14.
But that was not the highlight.
“Brownie and Steve” regained their relentless focus march on in success after a disappointing day against Staffs, taking four from for and gaining the aggregate.
It can be said the “Newbies” are settling in well and progress is evident. Once again the Juniors put in stalwart performances lead by the incomparable Joseph Newsome.
The Trips went one better with a clean sweep 10 points.
18 match points all. Last match, last end, 6-8 down in the match. Trio of Connor Walton, Jill Newsome and ex England junior Daniel Agar laying down 6-8 on the mat. Young Daniel bowled a “worldie”, vocally urged on by his team mates. “Boom” he took his wood into the melee and ended with a three to make the match 9-8 +agg.
You’ve never seen the captain soooo excited, he nearly fell over with the speed he was covering 3 mats to get a closer look at the head. Match score 22-18. 189 -179 in shots that close.
Tornados resolve say it all!
What a day.
Rod Dawson.
Terriers Fixture 4
Terriers 20 v Derbyshire 20
On Sunday we played our match at home against Derbyshire in which we had mixed outcomes across all disciplines. The Pairs and the Fours won two of their four matches and the Triples three of their four matches. As usual all of the games were closely fought and in two instances in the singles and fours our teams lost by one point only making gripping watching! There was indeed some excellent bowling taking place from both sides and the games were played in a friendly and good spirited way. Overall, a great contest resulting in the points and aggregates being shared between the teams 20 points each to North Yorkshire Terriers and Derbyshire.
Sue Parton.
