Tigers (fixture 9), Terriers (fixture 9), Tornados (fixture 8)

Can the Tigers avoid relegation? Can the Terriers win Division 2? Can the Tornados get back into 3rd place in Division 1? The final few matches will decide.

The Tornados had the difficult task of taking points off Staffordshire after travelling the 130 miles over to Stoke with a team that included 5 players new to the team this year. Although the Singles, Triples and Fours only managed one win apiece, the Pairs weighed in with an impressive 3 wins (but unfortunately with no bonus points). This resulted in a 12-28 (123-226) defeat but that is an excellent result and a 4 point improvement over last year. With 2 games remaining, hopes remain high for another 3rd place finish this season.

The Tigers were at home to West Yorkshire A. Their away match had netted 9 points so they hoped to improve on this to help their cause. A very tight match ensued with the Singles and Triples each  sharing their points 5-5, whilst the Pairs clocked up an 8-2 win to compensate for the 2-8 defeat in the Fours.  This gave an excellent result of 20-20 (181-167) which finds them now rubbing shoulders with Humberside A who still have 2 difficult away matches to play.

The Terriers were also at home for their first game against Durham. With 3 matches in hand, Durham could still pose a threat with a good finish to their season so the Terriers needed to come out on top to keep them at bay. And so they did. A combined team effort produced 8 points each from the Pairs and Triples with 5 from the Fours and 4 from the Singles to give them a 25-15 (183-159) result and send them 16 points clear at the top of Division 2…… for the moment. All may depend on a good final match when they travel up to Murton for their return against the Geordies in 4 weeks time. Good luck Terriers.

The results from todays matches mean there is a realistic possibility of there being 3 North Yorkshire teams in Division1 next year…….if all goes well in the final 4 matches!! That would be an achievement.
