Terriers & Tornados (fixture 10)

12.3.23 – Both teams were at home for their 10th and last game of the season. The Terriers were up against this years Division 1 winners against whom they had only scored  2 points in their away match a few weeks ago. It looked as if there would be a similar result today with the Singles and Pairs failing to score and the Fours only managing one mat win. However, the Triples came to the rescue with an undefeated performance picking up all 10 points – great effort. The match result was thus 12-28 (131-215) leaving the Terriers languishing in bottom place 56 points below Humberside A in 5th place. It would not be unfair to say that the team were somewhat out of their depth in Division 1 and will be far more at home in 2023-24 when they return to Division 2 where they will be a match for any of the other teams.

The Tornados played Humberside A and although they were too far behind Stockport to be able to improve their position, managed to close the gap a little with a 28-12 (205-136) victory. The Singles and Triples were undefeated (with 9 and 10 points respectively) and the Fours managed to add 7 points. The Pairs unfortunately lost two of their games by a single shot and therefore ended with their worst result of the season with only 2 points. The season has been a formative one with several new players and several returning players in the side giving “Rodders” much to think about in terms of the selection and placement of players within the disciplines. They will renew their campaign next season hoping to give both Stockport and Staffordshire a bit more to think about!
