Terriers (fixture 6), Tornados (fixture 5) and Tigers (fixture 5)
Sunday December 1st
This was the third consecutive double home header for the Terriers and Tornados as both the Humberside teams visited the Galtres Centre. Last year’s results (24-16 for the Terriers and 33-7 for the Tornados) gave our teams the hope and expectation of further victories…..but how would our performance be in 2024? Hope does not win matches! Hard work and concentration does.
The Terriers started well winning all mats in session 1 (8 pts) but in session 2 only managed to add a further 2 (2 draws). However they finished well with 12 further points (+ 3 aggregates) added in the afternoon, to secure their 5th win of the season by 28-12 (189-163) an improvement over last year. They are now 26 points clear at the top of division 2 so some good results over their last 4 fixtures are now looked for to win the division 2 title (and the £100 prize!).
For the Tornados it was to prove difficult to match last years excellent result. The Singles played well but were up against two strong players including Dave Coultas, a two times Nationals Champion and so unusually, they failed to score. The Pairs on the other hand completely outplayed their opposition winning all games by big margins (+55 shots in total) and collected a full house of 10 points. The Triples and Fours won 5 of their 8 games and also did enough to secure both the aggregates. The final result was therefore a win by 24-16 (217-143)
Meanwhile, the Tigers travelled to Leeds to take on the West Yorkshire A team. Last year they had beaten their B team convincingly both at home and away but they realized that in West Yorkshire A they would face a stronger squad. At the half way point (lunch) they were doing well and only trailed by 2 shots (7-9). This proved a wakeup call for WY and over the afternoon, they won 7 of the remaining 8 games. With all the bonus points also going their way, the final score was a win for the home team by 31-9 (191-141). With half their matches now complete, they find themselves languishing at the bottom of division 1 just 9 points behind Humberside A who they will play next week. Come on Tigers!
