POTTERS – East Coast Triples & Pairs
This report was provided by Chris Prendergast – Easingwold SMBC
This years spring break at Potters (6th – 10th May) was attended by a record contingent of 25 bowlers from North Yorkshire with 2 from BSA , 3 from Scarborough, 2 from Yoredale, 1 from Great Ouseburn and 17 from Easingwold.
The main event was the TRIPLES (played during the day) in which there there were 4 groups of 12 teams. The winner of each group then went through to the semi finals. The 48 teams came from several counties, including Norfolk, Kent and Somerset etc.
Chris Prendergast and Judith Fearns were joined by Steve Easter (from Norfolk) and they came out top in their group with 8 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat (against Debbie Taylors trio). Dave Huntons team nearly won their group but lost out on the last day to the eventual winners from Norfolk
The other Triples teams of Arthur Jackson, Denis Thornburn, Freddie Alnutt, Paul Whitcombe, Martyn Robinson and Debbie Taylor all had mixed success in their round robin games.
So to the Triples semi finals in which Chris’s trio beat a Norfolk team 9-4 to reach the Final. In the this they were well supported by the NY contingent with banners and lots cheers and applauds which was much appreciated. However they sadly lost out to another Norfolk team by 1-9.
In the PAIRS competition, which was held in the evenings, there were almost 30 teams competing with everyone playing 7 games over 3 nights and with the top 4 teams going into the Finals. Judith and Chris team came top of the pile with 6 wins and a draw. Vi Garbutt from Cayton was paired up with Susan Alderson from Kent and they also reached the Semi Finals after finishing 4th in their group.
They played Judith and Chris in the semi final and after the last end all was a tie, so and extra end was played and despite great bowling from Chris and Judith, victory was snatched from their grasp!
In the Final, VI and her partner were narrowly defeated to finish 2nd. Judith and Chris meanwhile won their 3rd/4th playoff to finish 3rd!!
Good to see so many NY bowlers involved in the competitions, and to see NY in both Finals.
A very enjoyable few days during which great fun and camaraderie was the order of the day throughout the week . Why not come and join us all again next May!!
