Northern Ladies v Northern Gents

For the second year running, the season was kicked off in fine style in the Galtres Centre in Easingwold. when a team of 48 Ladies took on a team of 48 Gents. This was a capacity event for the venue and utilized 12 mats. The format was Fours and all players had 4 games each of 10 ends. Although 50% of those taking part were North Yorkshire players, the teams also included players from across most of the Northern counties.

The day was organized and run jointly by North Yorkshire’s Safeguarding Officer, Jill Newsome, and Chairman Joseph Newsome. The Gents were once again victorious (68-28) and took possession of the massive Trophy, but this is really incidental. A great way to start this season and for those who had spent the summer out in the fresh air, some much needed match practice ready for the competitive season ahead.A raffle was held for a single prize of £50 and this boosted the surplus for the day by an extra £134. Excess funds after expenses will once again be donated to the NYSMBA chosen charity – the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. (A donation of £350 was subsequently sent to the YAA on 18/9)
