Easingwold Open Triples
The 25th Annual Easingwold SMBC Open Triples competition took place on Saturday 1st February in the Galtres Centre playing for the Jack Freeman Trophy and over £100 in prize money. The total of 35 entries (making this the largest competion held in the county) were received from all over North Yorkshire and included as usual a strong contingent from Durham. For the first time there was also an entry from West Yorkshire and another had made the trip all the way from Norfolk!
Each team played 5 games of 40 minutes duration in alternate sessions with 2 points awarded for a win and 1 point for a draw. At the end of the day 4 teams remained unbeaten with a maximum 10 points. After calculating the shot differences of each team, the first three places were awarded as follows:
Winners: Les Lambert/Matthew Jackson/Paul Whitcombe (Great Ouseburn) 10 points +73 shots
Runners Up: David Newsome/Jill Newsome/Daniel Agar (North Duffield)10 points +38 shots
Third place: Francis Boatman/Neil Flynn/James Clark (North Duffild/Hambleton)10 points +37 shots
The competition was played in a very friendly atmosphere throughout the day and it was good to see a number of beginners taking part. The highlight of the day was watching a 91 year old and an 11 year old competing on the same mat, showing that this is indeed a game for all ages!
After presentation of the Trophy and prize money, thanks were given to everyone who set up the equipment late on Friday night and to Derrick Johnson who supervised the provision of refreshments throughout the day. Rod Dawson also thanked Joyce and Keith Hughes for organising and running the competition on the day.
The club looks forward to welcoming everyone back to compete again next year. Keith Hughes (ESMBC)
