CHAMPIONSHIPS – Triples results

Saturday December 9th 2023:

Today saw the running of the Triples – the 7th and last of our annual County Championships, played as usual at the Galtres Centre in Easingwold over 8 ends per game. The entry of 24 triples (same as the last 2 years) played in a round robin of 6 groups of 4 with the group Winners and the Next Best 10 progressing to the last 16 knockout round. After this the final 8 contested the QFinals with the following results.

Steve Packer, Steve Duffin and James Clark v Peter Sayer, Rod & John Dawson 8-6
Gill Fletcher, Alan  & Pat Banthorpe v Brenda Benson, Margaret Lambert and Caroline Harris 9-7
Lee & Bronagh Toleman and Danny Langdon v Lawrence & Chantal Ireland and Chris Prendergast 11-4
Neil & Heather Robertson and Rhona Worley v Simon Holtby, Rose Haynes and Matthew Jackson 8-6

The Semi Final between Gill’s trio and Lee’s resulted in a very decisive win for Lee by 17-1 whilst in the other, Steve Packer’s team could not hold off the challenge from Neil and Co who went into the Final after a 9-6 win. However, the Hambleton trio, after a great day, were finally brought down to earth by the North Bay three who took the title with a 12-0 win.  For Bronagh this was her 5th Triples win (2011,12,18,20,23) the last three being with Lee and for Danny a second title.

Many thanks once again go to Alan Debenham who has officiated in all but one of our Championships and to Pat Jones whose 5 raffles have raised nearly £400 for the Associations benefit. Both of them, together with Robert Mumford our Competition Secretary who has organized and run all the competitions, can now take a well earned rest in the knowledge of jobs well done.
