CHAMPIONSHIPS – Singles results

Saturday December 2nd

The entry of 36, whilst the same as last year, was down on previous years which have seen up to 49 players taking part. The RR was thus organized as 9 groups of 4 with group winners and the “Next Best” seven going through to the first KO round – the last 16. One more round and we were left with the 8  Quarter Finalists who fared as follows.

Pete Sayer v Steve Duffin 8-6
Lee Toleman v David Newsome 12-5
Danny Langdon v Matthew Jackson 9-7
David Brown v Daniel Agar 7-6

In the Semis, David, who had only entered as a substitute, gave Lee food for thought with his consistent accurate drawing but eventually succumbed by 5-8 whilst the tussle between Pete and Danny ended with a win for Pete by 9-3.

Lee’s pedigree is well known with several National wins to his credit and his name also appears on our own Championship Trophies multiple times. Peter is a relative new kid on the block so he knew he had to take the game to Lee with some positive and at times even aggressive shots.  This approach paid off and after an excellent battle between these two top players, he took our Singles crown by 10-6.

All games were 10 ends and Alan Debenham and Timothy Pearson shared the umpiring duties.
