CHAMPIONSHIPS – Fours & Pairs results

Saturday/Sunday November 24th/25th:

On Saturday, 16 Fours had entered (up 2 on last year) and these were randomly placed into 4 groups of 4 for the RR stage. Group winners and the Next Best 4 then went on to play in the QFinals the results of which were…..

Chris Prendergast, Judith Fearns and Lawrence & Chantal Ireland beat Joseph, Jill & Danielle Newsome and James Clark (7-5).
Matthew Jackson, Caroline Harris and Les & Margaret Lambert knocked out Helen Hurling, Ian & Betty Ding and John Drew (8-4).
Bronagh & Lee Toleman, Danny Langdon and Callum Malone overcame Freddie & Gill Alnutt, Joyce & Keith Hughes (9-4).
David Newsome, David Brown, Steve Duffin and Daniel Agar put out Roger & Diane Ellis, Andy Eccles and Samantha Stacey.

In the Semi Finals David’s Four were 7-2 up going in to the last end when they dropped a 5 forcing an extra end which finally went to David (9-7). In the other, Bronagh’s Four overcame Matthew and Co. with a 10-5 win.

As was to be expected, the Final was a tense and closely fought affair which went in to the final end all square at 5-5 with Bronagh and Co then gaining the 1 shot required for victory. This was a 3rd Fours win for Lee and Bronagh and a 4th win for Danny.

All games were over 7 ends. Thanks go to Alan Debenham for umpiring duties and Pat Jones for the raffle which raised £77.50.

On Sunday, 28 Pairs took part (down 2 on last year) in a RR of 7 groups of 4. Group winners and the Next Best 9 then took part in the first KO round for the top 16. After 8 more eliminations the final 8 contested the QFinals with the following results.

Matthew Jackson and Dave Hunton v Freddie & Gill Alnutt 12-3
Lawrence & Chantal Ireland v Pete Sayer and Ken Taylor 14-3
David Newsome and Danny Langdon v Chris Prendergast and Judith Fearns 12-3
Lee Toleman and Callum Malone v Joseph & Jill Newsome 10-9

In the Semi Finals Lee squeezed out Lawrence by 7-6 and Matthew beat David by 12-5. The Final went to the North Bay duo by 10-5. This was Lee’s 3rd Pairs title win.

All games were over 9 ends. Thanks again go to Alan Debenham and Pat Jones for their umpiring and raffle contributions. The latter raised £46.50.
