C team (fixture 9) & A team (fixture 7)
Sunday Feb 6: The C team’s main objective this season was to secure promotion into Division 1. They knew that their main obstacle would be Derbyshire who after many years in this Division, had been relegated last season. Although a good result against them at home had already been achieved it was expected that today’s away trip to Renishaw would be a different matter. However, in spite of difficult games for the Singles who unusually only gained 2 points, a full house of 10 for the Triples and 7 each for the Pairs and Fours gave the team its 9th victory of the season by 26-14 (222-157). With only a single match remaining, they are now in the fortunate position of being “uncatchable” with a 101 point clear lead in the table.
Meanwhile, the A team travelled to Leeds to take on West Yorkshire B. A win was to be expected as the Leeds team were lying bottom of the division having only scored 47 points from their previous 6 matches. However, with some first time players in the side, nothing could be taken for granted and the match was quite finely balanced with the game points being shared (4-4) in the Pairs, Triples and Fours and the Singles winning 6-2. Critically, however, the team secured all 8 bonus points and therefore clocked up their 4th victory of the year by 26-14 (196-150).
