OVER 55s PAIRS, MIXED FOURS & U18s SINGLES

Over 55s Pairs 10/01/2026

This year there were twenty-six entries (five less than last year) played in six groups (four of four & two of five) This saw the group winners and “next best” ten going into the Last 16 round. Following the elimination of another eight pairs, the Quarter-Finals produced the following results:-

Arthur Jackson & Sue Pittam v David Herbert & Martin Tingle (8-5)

Roger & Diane Ellis v Martyn & Annette Robinson (9-3)

Robert Mumford & Jean Jones v Paul Whitcombe & Alan Meek (14-1)

Jean Bridges & Pete Arthur v Frankie Hardwick & Caroline Harris (11-2)

In the Semi’s Arthur & Sue  beat Roger & Diane (10-9) with Robert  & Jean beating Jean & Pete (6-5) There was to be an extra match though, because of the vagaries of the National Finals allocations. In the event of an extra place being awarded to us, a third place playoff between Roger & Diane and Jean & Pete took place, with Jean & Pete taking third place (9-7) after a tiebreak end.

In the Final Robert & Jean, beat Arthur & Sue (7-6) to become the 2026 Over 55s Pairs Champions.

All the games were played over nine ends. The Umpires for the day were Joe Newsome (North Yorkshire) and Tim Pearson (West Yorkshire)

The raffle, organised over the two days as usual by Pat Jones, who managed to extract money from the most reluctant of Yorkshiremen, raised £109.27 for county funds, and thanks were given by our County Chair Joe, all those who had participated to make the weekend a success, Special thanks were given to Robert Mumford for his tireless organising, to the tea and biscuits team, and the four players who had turned out on Friday night to set the hall up.
