TIGERS (FIXTURE 6) TERRIERS & TORNADOES (FIXTURE 7)

Shortly before the derby match between the Tigers and Terriers began last Sunday the teams gathered in silence to mark the loss of Terriers stalwart Edrene Rumley. Terriers Captain Pat Jones spoke movingly in a short reflection on Edrene’s passing, commenting on her bowling life and expressed all our sincere condolences to her partner Jim and her family. Tigers Captain Chris Prenderghast echoed her sentiments.

Tigers 26 – Terriers 14

On Sunday the 4th of Jan the Tigers took on their North Yorkshire opponents, the Terriers. The Tigers, unbeaten before this game, were hoping it would still be the case after facing the snapping Terriers.
Both teams had full squads for this top of the table clash, and after the first session, the Tigers won three of the four formats, losing out in the pairs, who lost by 2 shots.

This continued on into the second session with the Tigers winning all 4 formats and healthy aggregates on singles, triples and fours.

Lunch came and went, with the Terriers hitting back at the Tigers in the third session, doing a reverse of session one, by winning all the formats except for the pairs.

The final session was pivotal, it was possible for the Terriers to swing the whole day in their favour, alas it wasn’t to be, they only managed two wins in the fourth session and couldn’t help their aggregate score except in the pairs which they won.
The Tigers again were victorious winning the match 26-14.

The game was played competitively by both teams with plenty of humour and respect for each other. The Tigers now have only one home match remaining out of their last four (West Yorkshire) and face some hard away games at Durham, Derbyshire and Stockport.

Happy New Year to you all.
Chris.

Tigers 26 – Terriers 14

This game was always going to be a highly competitive one and it proved to be so, played in the best of spirit. Our Pairs and Fours teams competed well against their opponents, and both gained four points respectively. The Fours put in great performances under a lot of pressure! The Singles and Triples teams only managed to achieve two points each and with no aggregate scores. The final result was North Yorkshire Terriers 26 points including 6 aggregate and North Yorkshire Terriers 14 points including 2 aggregate.

A great bowling Sunday with excellent bowling skills being demonstrated by both teams.

Sue Parton.

Humberside Harriers 18 – Tornados 22

Welcome to 2026 with a bang!
Less than 24 hours before we were to depart for Humberside, I found myself three players short of a full team, due to bad weather (snow) and illness. After some quick fire thinking and great team support, which included a modicum of help from other NY captains, three players gave up their Sunday plans and joined us at Humberside.

A very chilly venue on the day. A great many of the home players refusing to take off their very snazzy new team jackets… so, a few hoodies were allowed.

It was not apparent to me initially, but during the days play, I was informed that the team they put out had been vastly upgraded from the one that visited Easingwold in November. A sign of respect? Or possibly a muffled attempt to get a win.

Even though we managed to put out a full team, it was apparent that some Tornados players were deffo under the weather or had bunked off from homework to play. The Tornados put in a massive shift to get a result, not a lot in it, but salvaged pride was a reward for the gallant efforts all-round.

Singles and pairs gaining six points apiece plus the aggregate.

As a result of having to switch things around last minute, a weakened Trips and fours set up suffered but still put up a sterling fight as always. Trips gaining two wins and fours one.

Final scores ended up Tornados  171 shots and 18 points + 4 aggregate  = 22.

Humberside Harriers 154 shots and 14 points + 4 aggregate  = 18.

We will be back in action in a couple of weeks after NY Championship/SMPT British Open weekend.
