Terriers (fixture 5) & Tornados (fixture 4)
Sun Nov 17
Another double-header in the Galtres today bringing joy to the Terriers but disappointment to the Tornados.
The Terriers had already defeated West Yorkshire B in their away match last month and knew that last year, the home fixture had resulted in their best result of the year (36-4) so they arrived confident of another good result. And so it was, with the contest living up to expectations. The Triples were undefeated and the other 3 disciplines only dropped 2 points apiece leading to a resounding victory by 34-6 (231-141). With half their matches still to come they are currently top of their division…..can they stay there?
The Tornados had won a close home match against Staffordshire last year by 23-17. Our team today, however, only contained 9 of last years squad so how would they and the “newcomers” perform against last years champions? The Fours struggled to make any headway and both failed to score. The Triples almost had a great day losing 1, winning 1 and drawing 2 but losing the aggregate. Both Pairs won a game and did enough to also secure the aggregate. The Singles put up a great fight against the Stanway/Lamb combo and finished with a win and a draw. So although it ended up as a defeat by 13-27 (153-177) our “new” team, although disappointed, can be satisfied that, all things considered, they gave the visitors a run for their money.
