Tornados (fixture 1) & Tigers (fixture 2)
Sat 12 Oct
After their disappointing result at Broadbottom last week, the Tigers entertained Stockport’s A team for their return match at home. A better result was expected and, with 7 team changes, a better result was achieved although Stockport’s top team continued to make scoring difficult for the home side. In the Singles, Lawrence Ireland managed a convincing win against Mike Anderson whilst both Pairs drew their games against the Banfields but made little headway against the Crowthers – so 4 points to the good. Both Triples and Fours shared their results with 4 points apiece with the Fours just pipping the opposition to also claim the 2 bonus points by 1 shot. The final tally was thus 14-26 (135-209), a very creditable outcome for the newly promoted Tigers.
The Tornados, for their first outing of the season travelled to South Cave to play Humberside A. For several disparate reasons, 25% of last years squad were no longer available for selection but nevertheless the team (including two “newbies”) was hopeful they could match last seasons away win of 27-13. By lunch, the honors were even at 8-8 but the afternoon saw the Tornados gain the advantage to win the session 12-4. In the Singles, both David Newsome and Peter Sayer ended the day undefeated whilst the other 3 disciplines all contributed 4 points each with the Pairs and Triples also claiming their bonus points. giving a final score of 26-14 (191-163).
(Pete Sayer is now off to Skien Fritidspark to try his luck in SMTP Norwegian Open – so “Lycka till” Pete.)
