CHAMPIONSHIPS – Juniors results

Thursday December 29th 2022: 6 of our 8 registered Juniors took part in this years 20th U18 Singles Championship held at the Bubwith centre. They were Lilly Duffin and Toby Trevaskiss (both 11), Lewis Weightman and Patrick Rafferty (both 12) and Matthew Guise (17) – all from North Duffield with Laura Lealman (14) from Welburn making up the entry.
Our Safeguarding Officer, Jill, and Chairman, Joseph, were unfortunately out of action due to the dreaded Covid virus, so it was left to Robert Mumford, Janet Clark and David & Danielle Newsome to manage the competition.
This started as a round robin in 2 groups of 3 from which the winners and next best 2 played the Semi-Final. In these Lilly beat Toby 13-7 and Mathew beat Lewis 10-2. The Final saw Lilly overcome Matthew 10-4 to become the 13th name to go on the Junior Cup.

As usual, all 6 were able to have a go at the Target competition and it was also Lilly who won this……but only by a single point from Lewis 24-23

In the play-off for 3rd/4th place Toby beat Lewis 9-5.
We now await news of our allocations from the ESMBA to see how many will be joining Lilly at the National Finals after Easter in April.
