CHAMPIONSHIPS – Singles results

Saturday December 3rd: The SINGLES is usually considered as the primary event in any Championships, the one which all aspiring bowlers really want to win. So, the entry of 36 this year could be considered a little disappointing as for the last 10 years or so it has attracted 40+ (49 in 2018). Nevertheless, there was a top-quality list of starters including 6 former holders of the title. Once the round robin was completed and the final 16 knockout phase had been played, the 8 Quarter Finalists included the “cream of the crop” of 5 ex-England players and 3 “young hopefuls” which had the following results.

Lee Toleman v Dave Hunton 9-3
Dave Herbert v Danny Langdon 13-7
David Newsome v Robert Mumford 18-7
Bronagh Toleman v Joseph Newsome 10-9

The Semi-Finals saw Bronagh demolish Lee 16-2 whilst Dave Herbert fell to David Newsome 8-12

The Final was therefore between David, a winner in 2018, 2019 and 2020, and Bronagh who last won in 2012. A great match ensued and after 7 ends David held 6-3 advantage. However, Bronagh came back with 3 singles to square the match after 10 ends and then went on to clinch the extra end and become this season’s County Singles Champion.
