CHAMPIONSHIPS – Mixed Fours results

Saturday November 5th. In the first of this year’s 7 Championships, the number of entries (13) was the same as last year.  A random draw had placed the entries into in 3 groups (2×4 and 1×5) with all games played over 7 ends after which the bottom 5 teams were eliminated.

The group winners and the Next Best 5 then played the Quarter Finals, the results of which were……
Alan Banthorpe v Pat Jones 7-5
Mathew Jackson v Dave Herbert 9-7
David Newsome v John Catley 12-8
Freddy Alnutt v Roger Green 5-4

In the Semi Finals, David Newsome dispatched Alan Banthorpe 11-8 and Matthew Jackson overcame Freddy Alnutt 8-3.

This set up a repeat of last year’s Final between the Newsome family (now numbering 4) and the Great Ouseburn four of Mathew Jackson, Brenda Benson, and Margaret & Les Lambert. However, after a keenly contested battle, the Newsome’s took the Cup by 11-6. No doubt Matthew and Co. will be back next year for another go.

This is the 15th year for this competition and the Newsome name is plastered all over the Cup having won on 8 separate occasions – a great record.
