SATURDAY FEB 26th: – The “Little Cup” is the last of this seasons county competitions and this year an entry of 12 teams took part in the 21st running of this event. Each team of 4 players had six games – three playing as a Single and a Triple and three playing as 2 Pairs. Games were timed with Singles and Pairs getting 25 minutes and Triples 30 minutes. The format was relaxed with a 10 minute break between every other session and 40 minutes for lunch. No team was able to win all games and claim the 24 points available but Matthew Jackson, Paul Whitcombe, Allan Meek and Simon Holtby (Great Ouseburn) came close with only a single defeat, and with another drawn, ended as this year’s winners on 21 points. The Cup is theirs for a year along with 1st prize of £100. Runners up were Joseph Newsome, Janet and James Clark and Daniel Agar who, along with Alan Banthorpe’s Hambleton team, ended on 16 points. However a better shot difference earned them the 2nd prize of £50. A full table of results is available on the Little Cup page.
