---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------11th PAIRS TOURNAMENT 2008
Saturday 25th October 2008
Although 5 of the leagues smaller clubs were unable to field a team for this annual event, the 3 largest clubs were able to enter 2 teams each making an entry of 9 teams in total. By making full use of the Galtres Centre's recently opened double size Sports Hall, the organisers were able to lay down 8 mats and all entrants had 4 matches each spread over 9 x 40 minute playing sessions. With each match worth 12 points there was a theoretical maximum over the day of 48.
With one session to go, Easingwold 'A' (last years winners) were in a strong position having completed their games with a total of 37 points. However, 3 other teams were all in with a chance if they played well in the final session. As it turned out, Hambleton 'A' came very close with a total of 36 points but it was Knaresborough 'A' with an excellent final match against Boroughbridge who denied the Easingwold team a second successive win by a single point. Scores were tabulated by the new league Secretary, Andrew Mather and the umpire for the day was Arthur Rathmell.
