TRIPLES TOURNAMENT (1st team vs 2nd team) - (Sunday March 30th) - The two Captains organised this day primarily in order to raise funds and each put together a team of 12 triples based mostly on the players who had represented each of the county teams during the course of the season. All those taking part played in 4 of 8 sessions which were timed at 40 minutes. There were therefore a possible 96 points available and by the end of the day the 1st team had secured a substantial win over the 2nd team by 60-36 (484 shots - 373 shots). A very well supported raffle raised £140 and some other items were also auctioned bringing in a further £35.
DENNIS JARVIS - 100 NOT OUT - (Sunday October 14th 2007) Although this day saw the County 1st team clock up their second win of the current season (and their 10th consecutive victory), the day was a particularly memorable one for another reason, namely that it marked Dennis Jarvis' 100th inter-county game for the NYSMBA. Dennis's county record started way back in 1996 since when he has only ever missed 3 fixtures - a record of loyalty that in unlikely to be surpassed. He is the first player to achieve this distinction, and to honour his achievement, Captain Ralph Parsons presented him with an inscribed glass trophy. Congratulating him on his dedication, Ralph said he hoped that Dennis would be celebrating his 200th game in the not too distant future (about 2019!). (See PhotoGallery)
CAPTAIN vs CHAIRMAN - (At Easingwold - Saturday 20th October 2007) This match was intended as a repeat of last year with the Chairman picking a team to challenge the County Team. However, due to a holiday committment, the Chairman was not able to raise a full team of 36. The county selection committee therefore, took on the job of picking two balanced sides, each of 12 triples, which were designated as the RED team and the BLUE team. All 72 participants enjoyed 3 games (alternate sessions) of 12 ends (10 ends in the afternoon) with the REDS beating the BLUES by 44-28 points (376-326 shots). A successful raffle resulted in an overall profit for the day on just over £100.
WARM-UP DAY - (16/9/07) - The warm-up day this year was given over to a friendly match against the Norfolk "over 60s" team. This much travelled side, had arrived in York on Friday and spent a very pleasant day sightseeing in the late summer warmth during Saturday. The match had been arranged between teams of 40 players comprising 8 Triples and 4 Rinks with each having two games using 6 mats. The original planned format of 10 ends for the Rinks and 12 ends for the Triples was extended to 12/15 ends respectively by mutual agreement to extend the day. Our team was formed from a mixture of 17 regular 1st team players and 15 potential 2nd team players with a further 8 players who had also been given the opportunity to take part. This proved to be a good start to the season for North Yorkshire who won 3 of the 4 sessions, 7-5, 9-3 and 10-2 whilst drawing the other 6-6 giving us a convincing overall victory by 32-16 (361 shots to 241). In offering thanks on behalf of her side for a very enjoyable day, the Norfolk team manager invited us to a return match to which captain Ralph Parsons promised to give some thought.
Thanks go to Nobby Clark for transporting the 2 additional mats required for the day and as usual to Sandra and her daughter, Carol, Betty and Mary for the buffet meal which was appreciated by all. The Raffle (organised with the usual strong arm tactics by the two Pats) raised a magnificent £110 with an additional £15 from the auction of a brand new video recorder (what a bargain!).
